BWXT is currently seeking a Licensing Specialist for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA!

BWXT is People Strong, Innovation Driven - be part of BWXT’s innovation hub. BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope powered systems for both internal and external customers.

Licensing Specialists fulfill a key function within the AT Regulatory & Mission Assurance (RMA) team’s Regulatory & Licensing group. BWXT AT conducts many activities under the regulatory frameworks of domestic Federal and State authorities such as the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Department of Energy (DOE), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Department of Defense (DoD), the State of Virginia, and others. Future activities may also include expansion into international markets with a growth in associated regulatory engagements with national authorities. Licensing Specialists support the development, review, approval, and management of key technical, policy, and programmatic documentation associated with nuclear technologies and coordinate engagements between BWXT AT’s management and technical staff and their counterparts at these regulatory authorities leading to approvals (e.g., licenses, permits) that directly support their deployment.

Job Description / Duties:

  • Coordinate written communications with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and other domestic and international regulatory authorities.

  • Develop proprietary and non-proprietary (redacted) information for submittal to regulatory authorities.

  • Coordinate internal communications with Records Management to maintain relevant regulatory documentation.

  • Manage regulatory invoices.

  • Work with project teams and finance to pay invoices and assign cost appropriately, including management of any associated internal key performance indicators.

  • Communicate with the NRC on a regular basis about fees and coordinate payments.

  • Schedule and coordinate logistics for NRC inspections and other audits.

  • Coordinate document reviews for regulatory inspections and audits.

  • Prepare submittal letters to regulatory authorities for all licensing-related activities.

  • Maintain regulatory communications postings for facilities as needed.

  • Interface with all departments and all levels of management.

  • Serve as backup to records management group.

  • Perform general office duties.

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED. An Associate’s degree is preferred.

  • Must have at least five (5) years of relevant experience.

  • Must have excellent communication, organizational and computer skills.

  • Experience developing licensing/regulatory (U.S. or international) transmittals and correspondence is desired.

  • Experience which provides adequate background for organizing, maintaining, and writing licensing documents and understanding licensing projects is preferred.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.

Pay: $[[custsalaryMin]] - $[[custsalaryMax]]

The base salary range for this position in [[stateProvince]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[custsalaryMin]] and $[[custsalaryMax]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
